Description
Warm, sweet, and comforting, cinnamon swirl bread is a nostalgic treat perfect for breakfast or dessert. This loaf combines a tender crumb with a rich cinnamon sugar swirl, making it ideal for toasting, gifting, or transforming into French toast.
Ingredients
3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour – or substitute with bread flour
1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
1 egg (room temperature)
For the swirl:
1/4 cup butter (melted)
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
Optional:
Raisins or chopped walnuts
Almond milk for dairy-free variation
Instructions
1. In a bowl, whisk together the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it bloom—about 5-8 minutes.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the butter and egg.
3. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for about 8 minutes.
4. Cover and allow to rise in a warm spot until doubled—roughly 1 hour.
5. Roll dough into an 8×18” rectangle. Brush with melted butter.
6. Sprinkle on your cinnamon-sugar mix. Add extras like raisins if desired.
7. Roll tightly into a log. Seal the ends and place into a greased loaf pan.
8. Let it rise again, about 20 minutes.
9. Bake at 350°F for 30–35 minutes. Tent with foil if it browns too quickly.
10. Cool at least 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
To avoid gaps, roll tightly and don’t overstuff with filling.
Use bread flour for a chewier texture or half-and-half with all-purpose.
Store in a bread box up to 3 days, or freeze slices for quick reheating.
Great as French toast, bread pudding, or topped with cream cheese frosting.
