Description
Baked apple donuts made with fresh grated apples, cinnamon, and buttermilk—soft, moist, and perfect for cozy mornings or sweet snacking.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tbsp coconut oil
3/4 cup finely grated Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apple
1 tsp non-alcoholic vanilla paste
1/2 cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease donut pan lightly.
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In another bowl, mix buttermilk, eggs, applesauce, oil, grated apple, and vanilla.
Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed—don’t over-stir.
Pipe batter into donut pan about 3/4 full.
Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden and toothpick comes out clean.
Cool slightly then roll in cinnamon sugar topping.
Notes
Substitute buttermilk with plant milk + vinegar for dairy-free option
Bake instead of fry to reduce fat
