Description
Apple Pie Bars are a simplified spin on classic apple pie—layering a buttery crust, sweet cinnamon apples, and crispy crumb topping into one easy-to-make dessert square.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted plant-based butter
½ cup brown sugar
5 medium Gala apples, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking pan.
Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
Cut in the chilled butter with pastry blender until mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Press 2/3 of mixture into pan base, bake for 15 minutes.
Toss apples with cornstarch and cinnamon. Layer over crust.
Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over apples.
Bake for 55 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are soft.
Let cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Use gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option.
Can be frozen and reheated.
Replace butter with coconut oil or vegan butter for dairy-free version.
