Description
Light, airy, and kissed with golden olive oil, this focaccia bread blends Southern comfort with Mediterranean flair. Dimpled to perfection and customizable with toppings, it’s an irresistible, chewy-crisp classic that’s as fun to make as it is to eat.
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour for extra chew)
2 tsp instant yeast (or active dry, proofed)
1 3/4 cups warm water (~110°F)
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for drizzling)
2 tsp salt
Optional: rosemary, tomatoes, garlic, caramelized onions, olives, sun-dried tomatoes
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, mix the yeast into warm water. Stir and let sit for a minute.
2. Add flour and salt, then mix until a sticky dough forms.
3. Slowly pour in olive oil while folding the dough. Let rest 15 minutes.
4. Knead gently until smoother (about 5 minutes).
5. Cover and let rise in a warm space until doubled, 1 to 2 hours.
6. Transfer to a well-oiled sheet pan. Spread out dough by hand.
7. Dimple the surface with fingers. Drizzle oil and add toppings.
8. Let rise again uncovered for 30 minutes.
9. Preheat oven to 425°F. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden and crisp.
10. (Optional) Broil 2 minutes for extra-golden top. Cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
Let the dough rest overnight in the fridge for deeper flavor.
Use a glass bowl to visually track rise.
Don’t overload with toppings—soggy bottoms are sad.
Broil briefly at the end for crunch.
Slice thick for sandwiches or cube for stuffing.
High hydration and olive oil are key to signature texture.
