Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
2 cups gluten-free broth (chicken, beef, or veggie)
2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder
2 tablespoons cold water (for slurry)
1 tablespoon tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Black pepper to taste
Optional: splash of unsweetened almond milk
Optional: 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Optional: 1/4 cup sautéed mushrooms
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, melt butter or heat olive oil over medium heat.
2. Whisk in gluten-free broth and bring to a gentle simmer.
3. Mix cornstarch with cold water to form a slurry.
4. Slowly whisk slurry into the simmering broth until thickened.
5. Add tamari, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
6. Stir in any optional ingredients like almond milk, Dijon mustard, or mushrooms.
7. Continue cooking and stirring for 3–5 minutes until thick and glossy.
8. Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
Notes
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze flat in zip bags.
Reheat gently on stovetop with extra broth or milk to loosen.
Arrowroot gives the best freezer-friendly finish.
