Homemade Orange Bars

Description

A tangy, sweet citrus dessert with a flaky shortbread crust and velvety orange custard filling.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsalted cold butter, cubed

1 cup caster sugar

3/4 cup fresh orange juice

1 tbsp orange zest

4 large eggs

2 tbsp cornstarch

Powdered sugar for dusting


Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Combine 1.5 cups flour and sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly.

Press mixture into greased 9×13 pan and bake for 15 minutes.

In another bowl, whisk eggs, orange juice, orange zest, cornstarch, and remaining flour until combined.

Pour filling over warm crust and bake for 20–22 minutes.

Cool completely on rack, then chill before cutting.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Use only fresh orange juice for best results.

Zest oranges gently to avoid pith bitterness.
