Description
A creamy, citrus-packed orange pie made with fresh orange juice and zest. Perfectly sweet and tangy with a smooth custard texture, all nestled in a buttery crust.
Ingredients
1 9-inch pre-baked pie crust
1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
3 egg yolks
1 1/4 cups whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon turmeric (optional)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Whipped cream or coconut cream for topping
Extra zest or orange slices for garnish
Instructions
In a heavy saucepan, whisk egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
Slowly mix in orange juice and milk while whisking.
Place over medium heat and cook until thickened, around 10–12 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in butter, zest, and turmeric.
Pour filling into pie crust and smooth the top.
Chill for at least 1 hour.
Top with whipped cream and garnish before serving.
Notes
Arrowroot powder can replace cornstarch.
Dairy-free milk and butter options work well.
Adding whipped egg whites turns this into a chiffon variation.
