Description
An easy and delicious fruit pie combining tart apples and sweet berries wrapped in a homemade flaky crust.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup chilled unsalted butter, cubed
4–6 tbsp ice water
6 apples, sliced
1 cup mixed berries
¾ cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp lemon zest
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
Add ice water gradually until dough forms. Chill two wrapped discs for 30 minutes.
Roll out one disc and press into a 9-inch pie pan.
In another bowl, toss apples, berries, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, lemon zest, and juice.
Add fruit filling to the crust.
Roll out second crust or create lattice, cover the top, seal edges.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar.
Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
Cool 1 hour before serving.
Notes
For less sweetness, reduce sugar by ¼ cup.
Add dash of nutmeg for spice depth.
Store refrigerated for up to 4 days.
