A sweet-tangy plum pie with buttery crust, infused with spices and summer freshness. Traditional Southern flavor with modern flexibility.
Ingredients
6 cups fresh ripe plums, sliced and pitted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cardamom
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 pie crusts (homemade or premade)
1 tsp milk or plant milk for brushing
1 tbsp turbinado sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Roll bottom crust into a 9-inch pie pan.
In a bowl, mix sliced plums, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, cardamom, lemon juice, and vanilla.
Let plum mix sit for 10 minutes to react with thickener.
Pour mixture into crust, spread evenly.
Cover with top crust (lattice or full), crimp edges, brush with milk, sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Place pie on baking sheet and bake for 40–45 mins or until crust is golden and filling bubbles.
Let cool for 2 hours before slicing.
Notes
Allow pie to cool before slicing for best texture.
Add blackberries or pears if desired for extended flavor.
