Description
Sweet potato fries—oven-baked for health and flavor—are a modern take on a beloved Southern staple. Crispy, golden, and rich in spice, they’re a feel-good comfort food perfect for any table.
Ingredients
2 large sweet potatoes (peeled or unpeeled)
1.5 tablespoons avocado or olive oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
Fresh cracked black pepper (to taste)
Optional: chili flakes, Cajun/za’atar/ranch seasoning, shredded Parmesan or nutritional yeast
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 425°F and set a baking rack over a sheet tray.
2. Cut sweet potatoes into ¼-inch sticks—uniform slices ensure even cooking.
3. (Optional) Soak slices in cold water for 30 minutes for extra crispiness.
4. Drain and pat dry completely.
5. Toss fries with oil until fully coated.
6. Add cornstarch or arrowroot and all seasonings. Toss again to coat evenly.
7. Spread fries on the tray/rack without overlapping.
8. Bake for 20 minutes, flip each fry, and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and crisp.
9. Cool for 3–5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Cornstarch yields crispier texture; arrowroot is great for paleo/gluten-free needs.
Serve with dips like garlic-lime mayo, chipotle ketchup, or honey mustard.
Pairs well with roasted veggies, veggie burgers, or light grain bowls.
Using a baking mat helps avoid burning and eases cleanup.
