Description

Soft, chewy sugar cookies with a hint of citrus, perfect for Christmas gifting or decorating with the family.


Ingredients

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 cup unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 egg

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste

Zest of 1 orange or lemon

Decorative sprinkles or sanding sugar


Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment.

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

Beat in egg, vanilla, and citrus zest. Mix well.

Whisk flour, salt, baking soda, and powder separately.

Add dry mix to wet in batches. Mix until combined.

Chill dough 30 minutes (optional). Scoop 1-inch balls.

Roll in sugar and space out on trays.

Bake 10–12 minutes. Cool and enjoy!

Notes

Make ahead: Freeze scooped dough for up to 3 months.

Swap citrus zest with cinnamon or cardamom for variation.
